Keynote Speaker: Sandra Hassink, MD President Elect, the American Academy of Pediatrics

Dr. Hassink is recognized internationally as an expert in child obesity prevention. Dr. Hassink has chaired the AAP Obesity Leadership Workgroup, the AAP Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight Advisory Committee, in addition she has authored two books: “Pediatric Obesity: Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment Strategies for Primary Care,” and “A Clinical Guide to Pediatric Weight Management.”

Program Overview: This important education program presented by a nationally recognized leader in the area of childhood obesity, "A Community Approach to Pediatric Obesity”, will define the current  expert guidelines on obesity and raise the awareness of health concerns caused by the growing epidemic of pediatric obesity. By specifically addressing appropriate nutrition and activity in the under 5 year old population the community will learn some positive family-based lifestyle changes that can be addressed in the pediatric care community.  Learning positive approaches to lifestyle changes can have a healthy impact on our vulnerable pediatric population and be a healthy lesson for all of us. 

 Objectives:
  1. Define the Expert Guidelines on Obesity. 
  2. Recognize obesity related comorbidities.
  3. Differentiate the impact of the obesity epidemic in the under 5 population 
  4. Define feeding and activity problems common to the under 5 group of patients.
  5. Describe approaches to family based lifestyle change that can be addressed in a pediatric care center

  Evening Target Audience : Members of the Palm Beach Pediatric Society, Pediatric Healthcare providers, Physicians, Nurses, select pediatric office personnel and member's guests. Registration will be limited to non members or guests of the Palm Beach Pediatric Society.
