Overall Goal of the Program...

To improve newborn patient care through a review of clubfoot and hip dysplasia.  To learn from the Orthopedic sub-specialists about clubfoot and hip dysplasia which will better prepare the pediatric care provider to initially recognize and evaluate the deformity. To consult a specialist to council the newborn’s parents about the evaluation, treatment and long term prognosis of the deformity for its needed correction.

Target Audience: 

Members of the Palm Beach Pediatric Society, Neonatologists, Pediatricians and Pediatric Subspecialties and any healthcare providers who care for infants.

● Describe the basic anatomy and pathophysiology of the clubfoot
● Discuss the epidemiology of club foot
● Differentiate the clubfoot from calcaneovalgus foot, vertical talus and metatarsus adductus
● Discuss the exam and work up of the clubfoot
● Discuss Nonoperative versus Operative Treatment options for clubfoot

"Problems in the Newborn Nursery - Hip Dysplasia Evaluation and Treatment"

● Explain and differentiate: Hip Dislocation, hip subluxation and hip dysplasia  
●  Discuss the risk factors for hip dislocation and  hip dysplasia  
●   Review how to examine the newborn hip and any related symptoms that may develop if not identified early  
●   Review the tests that are recommended for diagnosis and when to perform these tests  
●  Discuss the treatment for hip dislocation and hip dysplasia  
●   Outline the prognosis for these children  
●    Discuss adult sequelae of hip dislocation, subluxation and dysplasia
